★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The worst car rental service in my life. Never rent a car from the Sixt at the Lisbon airport.
When I picked up the car, the staff just handed me the car key and let me know where the car is parked. They did not follow me to the parking spot to check the status of the car together. There were two scratches on the doors in the car. I assumed that they already knew the damages on the car. When I returned the car, however, they pointed out those scratches and charged me an extra €620.50. I told them the Sixt must provide me with a clear evidence that no damage existed before I checked out the car. As an evidence, I asked for time-stamped photos that were taken immediately before I drove the car off the parking lot at the Lisbon airport. They answered that they do not take photos of the vehicle before each rental. Sixt must be ashamed of themselves to make money in this nasty way.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I just have the feeling that I have been completely scammed and deceived. In my opinion, the Portuguese Sixt Franchise is just damaging the reputation of the international brand by catching up on lost revenue (prob due to low bookings / covid) with double charging of already existing damages or arbitrary charging of non existing (normally wheel rim) car scratches after return - (among additional methods further described by recent reviews).
Please read and trust the reviews before booking; it happened to me too. although I delivered the car in the exact same conditions as picked up (100% sure) they charged me for already existing damages. Plus, they don’t do and are not available to perform the usual delivery checkup (handout checklist) and force you sign a contract at the delivery counter which states you received the vehicle in good conditions (or w/ pre-existing smaller damages in the same area they will attempt charge you for); without allowing you to see the vehicle first. Also, no checkout/delivery protocol at all; then, they will come back to you days later when you are (most likely) no longer in the country with some shady forensics results and re-using the same cropped damage picture stating a rim scratch >10 cm has been detected and reverting the burden of proof back at you.
I will proceed and complain to the international mother company/headquarters and to the Portuguese authorities and consumer protection agencies.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very rude personnel! Booked a car and weren’t able to use the credit card of the person who booked. We were then advised to book again for another 300-400€ since we can’t use the credit card of another person and were screamed at from the women for no reason. There was no intend from the personnel to solve this problem or to help us. Even if there was a problem with our credit card or whatever there is no reason to treat customers like this. We were calm and friendly. Waited 2-3 hours at the airport, but went with another rental service after.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wish I had looked at the reviews before renting a car from this company. A week after returning the car and sixth rental returning my deposit as car was in perfect condition, sixth car then emailed me. I was told that there was damage to the car and they would be taking £200 out of my account in 5 days times if I didn't contact them. I contacted them as i didn't understand where this was coming from so requested I seen pictures of the vehicle and i requested I was sent the record of every rental they've had on that car since I had rented the car. I know that there was nothing wrong with the car and it was due to me having only taking out the lower insurance that this was done to me.Sixth car rental company are a con and people should avoid this place as has put me off ever going back to Portugal. They are taking advantage of foreign travellers and should be stopped.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For some reason I’ve found that picking up a rental car anywhere in the world is a tedious experience and it was no different this time. Having said that the staff at SixT were helpful but the process does take a while. I did note that they rely on the fine print, or not so fine print, to ask the customer to accept a car you didn’t book but one that’s in the same category. This happened to 2 customers ahead of me in the line, this is rather disappointing. The exact same thing happened to me, I had booked a 5 series BMW and I was offered a 300D Mercedes, I know the diving experience for these cars is different. I insisted that I had requested a BMW and on checking they had one available. Now I’m enjoying my drive around Portugal and I’m glad the staff was accommodating.
Returning the car is a simple process and quick. The staff is helpful and efficient. The challenge is finding the drop off location in the parking.
But generally the car rental location is extremely conveniently located and within an easy walk from arrivals, which is a huge bonus when compared to the tedious and long process at Heathrow Airport in London.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am surprised by the negative reviews, because I had a perfect experience with Sixt at LIS airport. Reserved online and found a great price, received email confirmation. The day of our arrival, the rental agent was friendly, professional, and genuine. (Thank you Marcus!) Our car was ready on time, and the process was fast. The car was as promised, the right class, very new and very clean. The drop-off process was easy, even after hours. The final invoice was of course more than our initial charge, because we paid for tolls, fees and additional VAT. The final invoice was clear and had no funny business. For me, Sixt did a great job and I will be choosing them again in the future.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I never leave reviews, but I will absolutely never rent with them again. Our experience at the counter when checking in was great, so we assumed we were off to a great start. The first red flag should have been when I called to ask about extending the rental by a day — at the counter originally they said they had “upgraded us” (upon further review I got the exact car I paid for when making the reservation) so when I called to extend they wanted to charge me an absurd amount for the “upgraded car.” I returned the car in great condition, signed off on it, and assumed my deposit would be returned as promised. I received a charge (for a lot of money) 5 days later that I called about at least three times and no one could explain to me. (Not to mention how rude their representatives were. I was kind and patient, not questioning, and I will still spoken to so rudely and unprofessionally. I was genuinely appalled by one of them.) Someone suggested it could be for tolls, but I was charged for that separately (when they ask if you want the toll pass — beware you still have to pay for the tolls afterward. They left that important detail out upon check in....) I still have yet to receive any of my deposit back and they keep saying there is nothing they can do about it.
I’ve never left a negative review for anything before — but it felt necessary to make sure no one else has to deal with their absurdity! Do not rent with them! So many other (better) options at the Lisbon airport

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Handed me the car with one side wet, some splashes in the front and back while the passenger side was DRY. Raised suspicious, so photographed the entire car. On return, "surprise" they found a damage to the driver's door (picture provided by Sixt included) - Their Car Condition department says they cant see the damage on the photos I have taken - It is there, it was already there - It is a pretty small and superficial damage, their evidence imagine does not do a better job at picturing it either. It has been almost 2 months of this back and forth - they want to charge me almost 400 EUR for this. I will not pay - let them try and collect it. This is a scheme - Sixt Lisboa Airport Never again. I have taken 14 pictures of the car on collection and still - more than on the entire holiday itself :)
